Have you ever wondered if you can make money with Shipt, Instacart or another ride-share app?
If so, delivering groceries is one of the best apps to choose. Today, Shipt and Instacart seem to be the two main providers for this service depending on the area.
For me, when my wife and I traveled for her job, I found that Shipt worked best in my area. The main reason for this is because these companies are still working on building out their delivery zones by working with stores.
Here are my top 5 reasons for choosing to delivery with Shipt:
1. The money was surprisingly more than I expected.
I was amazed at how much I could make driving for Shipt.
Not only did I make $10-$20 for my base order, but your total can grow substantially when your customers tip. I wrote a previous post here explaining how I once got a tip for roughly $125.
In my metro, I routinely made between $500-$600 a week. This was for driving between 6-7 hours a day.
However, if you are willing to drive 8 hours a day like myself, you can make $800 or more depending on your area.
2. Routine customers
Another perk with Shipt is that they allow customers to select you as a “preferred shopper”.
This is helpful because customers who appreciate your service and want you to shop again for them will usually tip every time. You really do become a personal shopper for that person.
When you can develop those kinds of relationships, it not only allows you to make more money but it also can grow your customer base because your ratings will be high.
In other words, If you provide good service, you will attract more and more customers. This is one of the best benefits that allows you to make money with Shipt.
3. Picking your own schedule

Not a problem. With Shipt, you can make your own schedule on the spot. I used to pick up all my deliveries the same day starting at 7:00am.
Depending on your metro you deliver from, some towns will be busy more than others. After a while, finding out which cities to look for becomes easy.
I used to have a list of cities within my metro that were my top destinations. Once the app showed an available delivery in that location, I could schedule it right away.
4. Delivery only orders
What are delivery only orders?
This may sound funny since Shipt is a delivery-based app. However, when I started driving for shipt, I realized that not all orders are the same.
For most orders, you are the shopper and the delivery driver. This is probably what most people expected when they signed up for Shipt.
Nonetheless, in some metros, there are orders that are delivery only orders. These orders entail a driver picking up the order the same way you would when doing curb-side pickup. You park your car in one of the marked spots, and an associate will bring out the groceries and load them into your car.
At that point, all there is to do is deliver the groceries.
Some people may enjoy the shopping experience. It is what Shipt was intended for. However, for people that don’t mind driving, delivery only orders are the best because you don’t have to get out of your car.
On top of that, you are still helping many individuals that are not able to make it to the grocery store.
5. Perks and app support.
Other ways you can make money driving with Shipt include bonus opportunities.
Often, Shipt will designate a period for you to complete a certain amount of orders and earn extra cash. Usually, there are requirements for this but it is worth the deal. These include:
- Being on time
- Must be Shop & delivery orders (no delivery only mentioned above)
- It cannot be a part of some kind of bonus offer already.
As you can see, these requirements are not hard to meet.
As far as the app support goes, you may be wondering why I have included this. From my experience delivering with Shipt, I believe the support group has definitely made it possibly to make more money with the app.
Depending on how much you drive, the support group is something you may use everyday. Reasons for calling support include:
- Not being able to make a delivery for many reasons
- You’ve found a new order that meets your needs (pays more)
- Having issues at check out and saving you time
- Having trouble finding your destination
- The customer did not provide a gate code and you cannot access the property.
All of these reasons can help you make money with Shipt because if your trying to earn the bonus money mentioned above, you must be on time. Also, if you have to cancel an order for any reason above, you do not always receive the full base pay and you won’t be tipped.
Not to mention, there are many other situations you could be in where you may have to call support. Overall, Shipt has a good team, and they were always quick to answer and ready to help.
Moreover, if you are looking to make some extra money, need a full-time job, or simply need a new hobby, driving for Ship is a great idea. Many of these ride sharing/delivery app businesses are doing a great job at not only making it easy to earn money but providing additional benefits that make it worth your time.
